Budapest is very important for Hungary. Quarter of the whole population works and lives here.

It was the cradle of different revolutions in 1848, 1918 and 1956. The Romans built a flourishing town here and we had Turkish people and others as guests for 150 years. It is no wonder – where the water is, there is life. There is no lack of water and springs in Budapest.

People of Budapest have kept the culture of the different nations that had turned up here in the past. The ruins of the Roman towns can be visited; the Turkish bath works and statues collected from the socialism can be seen as well.

In that multi-coloured city everything is together in one place. You can find Hungarian, Czech, German trams and even one from Hannover – so from the veterans till the newest ones. The Russian robust trains of the underground still run but on the other hand brand new carriages are waiting for the start in the depot.

In the heart of the town – Margaret Island is a small wonder. It’s like a human organism. This is one of the town’s lungs. Although we can find houses with crumbling walls – people of Budapest are optimistic; at least there are things to work on.

There are countless of restaurants, small pubs and modern fast food restaurants as well. Even the latter ones have respect for the Hungarian gastronomy and its good reputation – soon they have learnt that there is a need to ‘Hungarize’ their hamburgers.

Central Europe's longest tram line, the biggest market for jumble sale, the most thermal baths and the most market for fruits and vegetables can be found here, not to mention the oldest underground of the continent.

There is a dozen of more wonders here that even the people of Budapest haven’t seen lively yet – such is e.g. the 100 member Gipsy Orchestra. They are almost never at home. Their art commands world-wide interest.

Only a few inhabitants could tell how many medicinal springs have been pouring their water for centuries on the territory of the capital. That is also a unique wonder.

Please do come to Budapest and be the one who succeeds in counting those springs, buying those tickets for the concerts – for that even people of Budapest have been waiting a lot.
